GOLDEN GRASSES

GRASSES
Sitting quietly, doing nothing,
Spring comes, and the grass grows by itself.
- Basho

The moment one gives close attention to anything,
even a blade of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome,
indescribably magnificent world in itself.
- Henry Miller

The Golden Grasses series points to and celebrates Life (Big Life, with a capital "L") made manifest in the commenest of natural forms - grasses.

From the Pacific Coast through southwestern deserts to alpine meadows and across badlands and prairies to midwestern farmlands, close up, thin depth of field photographs transform grasses in all their color and formal variations into luminous channels of golden light.

Amazingly luminous because of how they're made. The photographs are inkjet printed over gold metallic gesso on canvas, glazed with the finest quality varnish and floater framed.

Light penetrates the image, strikes the gold metallic acrylic underneath and beams back … illuminating the artwork from within.

The aesthetic effect is incomparably brilliant, the message essential and compelling. Real value, represented by the luminous gold tones, abides in the astonishing magic of Life itself!
